Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele is setting the record straight amid growing speculation that his club gives Orlando Pirates special treatment when it comes to transfers.

Over the years, big names like Gift Motupa, Goodman Mosele, and most recently Tshepo Mashiloane, have made the jump from Baroka to Pirates — fuelling fan theories that Mphahlele prioritizes deals with the Soweto giants.

But the Baroka boss isn’t having it.

“It’s not true that I give first preference to Pirates or that I sell only to them,” Mphahlele told Sowetan Live.

According to him, while it’s no secret that he shares a long-standing friendship with Pirates chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza, it’s offers — not loyalty — that determine where players go.

“I sold two players to Stellenbosch recently… those players were wanted by other clubs too. It’s always about good offers and what’s good for the players.”

Mphahlele even traced his connection to Khoza back to 1983, when he played for Alexandra Blackpool, a team managed by Khoza during the Zambuk League days.

While he admits the relationship with Pirates is “very good,” he insists business comes first — not sentiment.

Whether fans believe him or not, one thing is clear: Baroka’s transfer choices are raising eyebrows, and Mphahlele’s comments are only adding fuel to the football debate fire.
