KRAAIFONTEIN – A would-be smash-and-grab thief got more than he bargained for on Monday evening when a brave local driver fought back with lightning-fast reflexes — earning the nickname “Kraaifontein’s Jackie Chan.”
According to witnesses at the scene, the incident took place during peak traffic when the suspect attempted to smash a car window and grab valuables. But instead of panicking, the victim sprung into action, blocking the attack and pushing the suspect back with a swift, martial-arts-like defense that left onlookers in awe.
The entire moment, captured in a 26-second clip, quickly went viral on social media, with viewers applauding the driver’s bravery and fast instincts. Several commenters joked that “he watched too many kung fu movies — and it paid off!”

No injuries were reported, and the suspect fled the scene empty-handed, possibly injured from the counter-attack. Police confirmed they are reviewing the footage to assist in identifying and tracking the suspect.
Locals have since hailed the quick-thinking driver as a neighborhood hero, with one resident saying:
“He didn’t just protect himself — he showed criminals they won’t always have the upper hand.”
